Less than three kilometers from the historic city of Ypres, four building permits were recently applied for in total eight industrial wind turbines.
We want to hold up a mirror to all parties involved from the following perspectives: UNESCO World Heritage ,Real Estate value Ypres ,Living environment and Prosperity.
For some World Heritage properties, even a single wind turbine can pose a threat! How does the belt of industrial wind turbines impact Ypres’ historical appearance?
Renewable energy projects require careful planning and adequate execution to avoid negative impacts on the authenticity and integrity of World Heritage properties and their Outstanding Universal Value.
European studies show that industrial wind turbines with a tip height of 200 meters can significantly reduce house prices.
The fall in value of the houses increases as the distance to the industrial wind turbines decreases and fades out approximately 8 to 9 kilometers away.
With regard to the environment and health, the precautionary principle applies in Belgium. This means that the government can take protective measures against potentially harmful environmental effects of a situation, even if those effects have not yet been proven conclusively.
Industrial wind turbines cause, among other things, low-frequency noise, cast shadows, flashing lights, etc. This can lead to health problems, which are still not taken seriously enough.
We wish to further investigate this perspective in the future.
If the majority of the community benefits from these projects and there are prosperity gains, they should be implemented.
At this moment, we are unable to realize a full profit and loss calculation. The profits from the industrial wind turbines are not made public.
We intend to develop this perspective further in the future.
